CUSTOM FABRIC & COLOR SOLUTION

Choose the Right Fabric and Color for Your Bag Program

KSSIA helps you select polyester, nylon, canvas, mesh and lining materials — balanced against your target price, durability needs, market and order quantity — then locks the colors with swatches and lab dips before bulk production.
HOW FABRIC SELECTION WORKS AT KSSIA

The Right Material Is a Price, Market and Use Decision

There is no single best bag fabric. A supermarket promotional tote and a daily school backpack need different materials at different costs. We start from your target price, destination market and expected daily use, then propose fabric and color options that fit — instead of quoting one default material for everything.
Color is confirmed step by step: reference or Pantone code first, then lab dips or stock-color swatches, then the approved color is locked for the sample and bulk production. Recycled and certification-related material options can be discussed based on your project requirements.

Fabric Matched to Bag Category

Backpacks, totes, travel bags and pouches each have proven fabric ranges — we recommend from what already works in production.

Price-First Material Planning

Tell us your target unit price and we show which fabric levels are realistic at your quantity, with clear trade-offs.

Color Locked Before Bulk

Pantone references, lab dips and approved swatches keep bulk color consistent with what you signed off.

Recycled Options on Request

RPET and other recycled material directions can be discussed based on project requirements and available certification support.
FABRIC & COLOR OPTIONS

Eight Material and Color Directions for Casual Bags

These are the fabric and color directions buyers use most. Exact construction, weight and price are confirmed against your style and quantity.
01

Polyester Fabrics

The workhorse for casual bags: 300D, 600D and 900D polyester balances cost, color range and durability for backpacks, totes and promotional programs.

02

Nylon Fabrics

Lighter and stronger per weight than polyester, with a smoother hand feel. 210D–420D nylon and ripstop suit travel, sports and higher-grade casual styles.

03

Canvas & Cotton Blends

Natural look and strong print surface for tote and shopper programs. Weight options from light promotional canvas to heavy retail-grade fabric.

WEIGHT, FEEL & COLOR CONTROL

The Details That Decide How a Fabric Performs

Two fabrics with the same name can feel and cost very differently. These are the detail decisions we confirm with you before sampling.

Fabric Weight & Denier

Denier (300D vs 600D vs 900D) drives strength, stiffness and price. We recommend the lowest weight that still meets your use case.

Hand Feel & Surface Texture

Plain weave, twill, dobby and ripstop textures change the perceived grade of the same bag — confirmed physically with swatches.

Lab Dips & Color Approval

For custom colors we prepare lab dips against your Pantone code; you approve the dip before fabric is dyed for sampling or bulk.

Colorfastness for Daily Use

Rubbing and light fastness matter for dark shells and light prints; testing requirements can be aligned to your market’s expectations.

Cost Differences Between Materials

As a general direction: promotional canvas and 300D polyester sit lowest, 600D mid, nylon and coated or recycled fabrics higher. We quote exact differences at your quantity.

Matching Lining & Trims to Shell Color

Zipper tape, webbing, binding and lining are color-matched or intentionally contrasted so the whole bag reads as one designed product.
FABRIC BY BAG CATEGORY

Which Fabrics Fit Which Bag Categories

Proven pairings from daily production — a starting point we adjust to your price point and market.

School & Casual Backpacks

600D polyester shells with 300D pockets and PU backing — durable, colorful and cost-stable for volume programs.

Tote & Shopper Bags

Canvas, cotton blends or 300D polyester depending on whether the program is retail, promotional or brand-led.

Travel & Duffel Bags

900D polyester or 420D nylon with reinforced bottoms — strength where handles, straps and bases take the load.

Cosmetic Bags & Pouches

Smooth polyester, microfiber-touch or coated fabrics that print cleanly and wipe easily for beauty and gift programs.

Drawstring & Lightweight Bags

210D polyester and light nylon keep these programs low-cost and easy to print at promotional quantities.

Sports & Outdoor Styles

Ripstop nylon shells with mesh panels and water-repellent finishes for gym, hiking-style and active daily use.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT FABRIC

How We Help You Choose Material and Color

Before proposing a fabric, we check six factors so the material fits your business — not just the spec sheet.
FACTOR
WHAT WE CHECK

Target unit price

Which fabric levels are realistic at your price, and where lining or denier adjustments can protect the budget.

Durability requirement

Daily school use, travel load or one-season promotion — each justifies a different fabric weight and construction.

Target market & channel

Retail shelf, e-commerce or giveaway — markets differ in expected hand feel, labeling and compliance focus.

Order quantity

Whether quantity supports custom-dyed colors and special fabrics, or stock colors deliver faster and safer.

Brand color accuracy

How close the color must match your Pantone reference, and whether lab dips are needed before production.

Sustainability & certification needs

Whether recycled materials or certification support are required — availability and documentation are confirmed per project.

FROM TARGET PRICE TO APPROVED FABRIC

The Fabric & Color Confirmation Process

Five controlled steps from your project brief to a locked fabric and color spec.
01

Share Project & Target Price

Bag category, quantity, market and target unit price — the inputs that decide which fabrics are realistic.
02

Receive Fabric Proposal

We propose 2–3 material directions with cost positioning, weight options and color approach for your program.
03

Confirm Swatches & Lab Dips

Physical swatches for hand feel and stock colors; lab dips against Pantone codes for custom colors.
04

Approve Sample in Final Fabric

The sample is made in the confirmed fabric and color so what you approve is what bulk will use.
05

Bulk Production to Locked Spec

Bulk fabric is checked against the approved swatch and sample, with inline checks during production.

FAQ

Fabric & Color Questions Buyers Ask

Can you match my exact Pantone color?

For custom-dyed fabrics we match against your Pantone code through lab dips, which you approve before dyeing. Small variation between dye lots and fabric types is normal, which is why approval is done on physical dips, not on screen.

Is there a minimum quantity for custom colors?

Yes — custom dyeing carries a fabric MOQ per color that varies by material. Stock colors avoid this minimum and ship faster. Tell us your quantity and we will confirm whether custom color is workable.

Do you offer recycled or RPET fabrics?

Recycled material directions can be discussed based on your project requirements, including available certification support and documentation. Availability and pricing are confirmed per project before sampling.

What is the cost difference between polyester and nylon?

As a general direction, nylon sits at a higher price level than polyester of comparable weight, in exchange for lower weight and a smoother hand feel. The exact difference depends on construction and quantity — we quote both options when the budget is close.

Are your bags waterproof?

Coated fabrics are water-resistant for daily rain use, not fully waterproof — seams and zippers are the limiting factor. If your market needs higher protection we can discuss construction options and what is realistic at your price point.

Can I get fabric swatches before ordering?

Yes. Swatch support is part of the proposal stage for qualified B2B projects — hand-feel swatches for stock fabrics and lab dips for custom colors, arranged before you commit to a sample or bulk order.
